In the past, the beginning of July sparked the excitement of summer! The sun sets later in the evening, friends and family gather for BBQs, and on the 4th of July, we acknowledge and commemorate our country’s freedom.
But, this summer is a unique time in the world, and we are taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of all. Below we have some ideas on how to spend a socially-distant Fourth of July celebration!
Organize a Picnic
Pack a picnic basket or cooler with some of your favorite beverages and snacks, a blanket or tablecloth, utensils, paper plates, a trash bag, hand sanitizer, and a speaker, and meet your friends at a local park. Enjoy the beautiful weather, good company, and the change of scenery from your dining room or office.

Tour the Monuments
For those fortunate enough to live in D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, the monuments on The National Mall, stretching from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, are the perfect place to walk around on the Fourth of July. But, for those who do not live near our nation’s capital, there are 3D monument tours available online!

Launch Fireworks
Nothing is more patriotic than red, white, and blue fireworks! If fireworks are legal in your state, carefully launch some! Or, sit outside and watch them from a distance.

Netflix Party
Missing movie nights with your friends? With the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension, you can have remote movie nights. On 4th of July choose to watch a patriotic movie and learn more about our country’s history.
Backyard Olympics
Invite your neighbors over for an afternoon of backyard Olympics! Split into three teams- red, white, and blue, and have events such as a water balloon toss competition, hula hoop contest, and relay races.
