Fun Flag Day Facts!
Flag day, celebrated on June 14th, is the perfect day to show your American Pride! No need to wait until Independence Day when you can exhibit your favorite flag to the whole neighborhood this Thursday.
Here are some fun facts to go along with your RED, WHITE AND BLUE.
1. The colors of the American flag are symbolic. The red stands for valor and hardiness. Blue stands for justice, perseverance, and vigilance. White stands for innocence and purity.
2. The design of the American flag has changed 27 times since its adoption in 1777
3. Rules exist for displaying the American Flag. They include:
- display the flag from sunrise to sunset - if displayed at night it should be illuminated;
- the flag should never touch the floor or the ground;
- the blue field should be in the upper left-hand corner when displayed on a window or wall;
- when raising the flag, it should be done quickly and when lowering it, it should be done ceremoniously.
4. There are six American flags located on the moon. Apollo crews 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17 planted the flags on the moon.
